In short

An embed is a card-style message in Discord featuring a colored strip, title, description, and fields. To send an embed with VeyroBot, you don't type a command: in the Dashboard → your server → Message Builder tab, you select the channel, fill out the message field by field, and hit Send.

The message is sent to the channel by VeyroBot and is saved in the dashboard. If you notice a typo, you don't need to delete and resend the message; you simply edit the same message from the dashboard, and the message on Discord updates in place.

Channel type, bot permission and mention rights

  • The channel must be a text or announcement channel. Messages cannot be sent to voice, forum, and stage channels from this tab.
  • VeyroBot must be able to see that channel and send messages. If the message contains an embed, the Embed Links permission is also required. If permissions are missing, sending stops and the dashboard shows which channel lacks permission; the message is never sent partially.
  • You need permission for mass mentions. To send a notification with @everyone or a role that not everyone can mention, the person using the dashboard must have the Mention Everyone permission in Discord. The server owner is exempt from this check. The bot's permissions do not replace your permissions.

Step-by-step embed sending

  1. Select the channel. Choose the target channel from the Channel list at the top of the Message Builder.
  2. Start from a template if you wish. The Start from template list loads previously saved messages into the form. If there is content in the form, it asks for confirmation before overwriting.
  3. Write the message text. This appears as plain text above the embed; it can be left blank.
  4. Select the mention. You can select a single role from the Role to mention list or toggle the Send notification to everyone with @everyone switch if needed. The mention is added to the beginning of the message text.
  5. Add an embed. Open a card using Add Embed: title, title URL, description, color, author name, URL and icon, small and large image, footer and icon, the Show timestamp option, and fields using Add Field. Fields marked as Inline will line up side by side.
  6. Add a link button. Enter a label and link using Add Button. Buttons only lead to an address; they do not assign roles.
  7. Check the preview. Every change is instantly reflected in the preview on the right.
  8. Send. The message is added to the Sent messages list; you can navigate to the message using Open in Discord.

Plain text or embed?

Plain message text onlyShort announcements and chat-like messages. It is the most readable format in notifications and on mobile.
Single embedContent with a title and sections, such as rules, role introductions, or event info. Fields keep items organized.
Multiple embedsWhen you need sections in different colors within a single message, such as rules and penalties in separate cards. A maximum of 10 embeds are allowed per message.
Link buttonsWebsite, application page, or game link. Use a short button label instead of pasting a long URL into the text.

Limits you need to know

The limits are the same as Discord's; when exceeded, the dashboard specifies which embed and field are too long.

  • Message text along with the mention can be at most 2,000 characters.
  • Per embed: title 256, description 4,096, author name 256, footer 2,048 characters; maximum 25 fields (field name 256, value 1,024 characters).
  • Total text of all embeds in a single message can be at most 6,000 characters.
  • Maximum 5 link buttons; button label up to 80 characters.
  • Link and image addresses can only start with https. Instead of providing an image via URL, you can upload up to a 3 MB PNG, JPEG, or WEBP file using Upload Image; the file is resized and stored as WEBP.
  • Color must be in the #RRGGBB format.

After sending: edit, copy, delete

  • Edit loads the message into the form; Save Changes updates the message on Discord in place. The channel cannot be changed. If Show timestamp is enabled, the timestamp updates to the time of editing.
  • Open Copy prepares a new message with the same content; use this to send it to a different channel.
  • Delete removes the message from Discord as well.
  • If the message was manually deleted on Discord, the record is removed from the list when you try to edit it.
  • Save as Template saves the form under a name. If you save a second time with the same name, it asks for confirmation before overwriting. A maximum of 100 templates are kept per server.

If no notification went out or the embed was rejected

  • Typing @Role in the text and expecting a notification. Mentions manually typed into the text do not trigger notifications. Notifications are only sent via the role selected from the Role to mention list or the @everyone switch. This prevents accidental notifications to the entire server due to a typo.
  • Assuming publication is automatic in an announcement channel. The message is sent to the announcement channel but is not automatically published to following servers. If needed, you must click the Publish button on the message in Discord.
  • Using http links. Insecure addresses are rejected. Make sure the address starts with https.
  • Leaving an embed empty. An embed without a title, description, field, or image cannot be sent. Delete unused embeds using Remove.
  • Trying to edit a message sent via another method. Only messages sent from this tab can be edited. Manually typed messages or those sent via other features of the bot are not affected.

If you are preparing an embed for a rules channel, check out the How to write Discord server rules article for the text itself; this guide only explains how to send the message.

Embed, reaction role or scheduled message?

Suitable for: Administrators who want to manage messages from the dashboard that need to look organized and be updated over time, such as rules, role introductions, event announcements, or link lists.

Not suitable for: Those looking for a menu that assigns roles when clicked; for that, reaction roles is a separate feature. This tab is also not used for messages that repeat automatically at regular intervals; scheduled messages are used for that. The Message Builder sends a message once.

A summary of the feature can be found on the Discord embed builder page, and the field list is in the documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a command in Discord to send an embed?

No. Messages are prepared, sent, and edited exclusively from the Message Builder tab in the dashboard.

Does the message appear from my account?

No. VeyroBot sends the message to the channel you select; the owner of the message appears as the bot on Discord.

Can I move a sent message to another channel?

It cannot be moved. Send the same content to the new channel using Open Copy, and remove the old one using Delete if necessary.

Can I send a few messages quickly at the same time?

There is a waiting period of a few seconds between sends on the same server. If you click too fast, the dashboard will ask you to wait.

Is the image I uploaded deleted after the message is sent?

No. The uploaded file is retained because sent messages rely on the image's URL.
